Angela "Angie" Harmon is an accomplished American actress and former model best known for starring in hit shows like Law & Order, Rizzoli & Isles, and Baywatch Nights. I‘ve been a huge fan of Angie since first seeing her on Baywatch in the 90s – she immediately stood out as someone special. Ever since, I‘ve loved watching her career blossom. Angie‘s dazzling smile, alluring looks, and undeniable talent have lit up screens both big and small for over 25 years now. In this post, I‘ll share some of my favorite insights from following this inspiring woman‘s journey.
Early Life & Modeling
Born in 1972 in Highland Park, Texas, Angie always had that "star" quality about her. She started modeling in her teens after winning Seventeen magazine‘s cover contest at just 15 years old. Angie recalled it as the first time in her life she felt truly beautiful.
In the late 80s and early 90s, I remember seeing gorgeous ads and magazine editorials featuring a young Angie Harmon. With her girl-next-door charm, she quickly became one of the most sought-after models around. Her fresh-faced beauty and ambition were evident from the start.
Although succeeding as a model, Angie‘s true passion was acting. She studied her craft at the prestigious Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute in New York while continuing to model.
As a fan, I always sensed Angie was destined for more than just gracing the covers of magazines. There was a depth in her eyes and spirit waiting to be unleashed on-screen.
Angie got her first big break on television in 1995, guest starring on an episode of the hit show Baywatch Nights. I still remember watching that episode and being enthralled seeing her make the leap to acting. The camera loved her beauty, but it was Angie‘s raw talent that really popped.
Over the next few years, Angie started landing more acting roles on shows like C-16: FBI and films like Lawn Dogs. But it was scoring the role of ADA Abbie Carmichael on Law & Order in 1998 that catapulted Angie to stardom.
Replacing actress Jill Hennessy, Angie had big shoes to fill. But she made Abbie Carmichael entirely her own with an enchanting mix of beauty, brains, and grit. In my opinion, those three seasons on Law & Order remain some of Angie‘s best work. As a fan, I was so proud watching her receive awards and accolades, including a much-deserved Golden Globe nomination.
After leaving Law & Order, Angie went on to showcase her talents in numerous films and TV movies throughout the 2000s. Some of my personal favorites of hers from this period include Fun with Dick and Jane (with Jim Carrey) and Seraphim Falls (opposite Pierce Brosnan and Liam Neeson). Her natural charisma and acting chops allowed her to hold her own alongside these Hollywood heavyweights.
Defining Role on Rizzoli & Isles
While I enjoyed seeing Angie shine in these movies, television is where she has always belonged. In 2009, Angie landed her most defining role as Detective Jane Rizzoli on TNT‘s Rizzoli & Isles.
I was ecstatic when I first heard Angie had been cast as Rizzoli, the tough-as-nails Boston detective. I just knew she would bring something special to the role – and I wasn‘t disappointed!
As Rizzoli, Angie got to showcase her incredible range. With the perfect blend of steeliness and sensitivity, she made Rizzoli come alive. Angie showed new depths as this complex, compelling character over the show‘s seven seasons. Her rapport with co-star Sasha Alexander was also always a joy to watch.
Without a doubt, Angie Harmon was born to play Jane Rizzoli. I️ couldn‘t imagine anyone else so perfectly embodying that perfect mix of swagger and soul. Rizzoli & Isles just wouldn‘t have been the same without Angie‘s pitch-perfect portrayal bringing the character vividly to life every week.
Rizzoli & Isles ended its successful run in 2016, but thankfully, Angie hasn‘t slowed down since. She has continued acting in recent years while balancing her role as the mother of three daughters.
Some notable projects I‘ve loved seeing Angie in over the past few years include guest appearances on shows like Horace and Pete and Fargo. She also returned to her TV movie roots with fun mysteries like Past Malice: An Emma Fielding Mystery.
It‘s been incredible watching Angie Harmon‘s career evolve from a modeling newcomer to versatile television icon. But through all her success, the qualities I‘ve always admired about Angie – her talent, confidence, outspokenness, humor, and dedication to family – remain unchanged.
Why I Love Angie Harmon
After following Angie Harmon‘s career for over 25 years, here are just a few of the many reasons she remains one of my favorite celebrities:
- Her extraordinary range and talent as an actress: From Rizzoli‘s grit to Carmichael‘s glamour, Angie disappears completely into every character she plays.
- Her natural confidence and being true to herself: Angie has never been afraid to take risks or speak her mind in Hollywood. She‘s a trailblazer.
- Her wit and sense of humor: Whether in interviews or on social media, Angie‘s quick wit and self-deprecating humor always leave me in stitches.
- Her close relationship with her daughters: Despite being a working mom, Angie clearly prioritizes time with her three girls. Their close bond is truly special.
- Her incredible beauty inside and out: Even in her 50s, Angie is still absolutely stunning. But it‘s her warmth and spirit that truly shine through.
- Her passion for philanthropy: From animal welfare to gender equality, Angie uses her platform to champion important causes close to her heart.
No matter what Angie Harmon does next in her career, I know I‘ll remain a devoted fan. I can‘t wait to see what exciting new roles she‘ll take on in the years ahead!
