Mitch Trubisky is an emerging star quarterback in the NFL who has quickly made a name for himself since being drafted by the Chicago Bears in 2017. As a lifelong NFL fan and Bears supporter, I‘ve been thrilled to watch Trubisky‘s promising career unfold.
Early Life and College Career
Trubisky grew up in Mentor, Ohio along with three siblings. He started playing football from a young age thanks to his dad, who played quarterback in college. A multi-sport athlete, Trubisky also excelled in baseball and basketball which helped develop his incredible arm strength and athleticism.
After a standout high school career, Trubisky chose to attend the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. As a freshman, he served as a backup to multi-year starter Marquise Williams. But as a junior, Trubisky finally got his opportunity to start and immediately flashed his talent by throwing for 3,748 yards and a whopping 30 touchdowns!
The NFL Draft
Trubisky‘s breakout 2016 season skyrocketed him up draft boards. Many scouts were mesmerized by his prototype 6‘3" frame, quick release, and his accuracy throwing deep. When my beloved Chicago Bears traded up to draft Trubisky 2nd overall in 2017, I was through the roof.
Drafting Trubisky did come with criticism though, as he only started 13 college games. But GM Ryan Pace saw the arm talent and believed with proper development, he could become a franchise-altering quarterback.
Professional Career So Far
Thrust into the starting role immediately, Trubisky understandably endured rookie struggles in 2017. But he showed steady improvement as the season went on. In 2018, Trubisky really came into his own by passing for 3,223 yards, 24 TDs and leading the Bears to a 12-4 record and division title.
While he regressed a bit statistically the next two years, I never lost faith in him. His work ethic and commitment to the team always stood out. Now in Pittsburgh, I expect Trubisky to thrive with all of his experience. He‘s too talented not to succeed!
Career Stats and Highlights
- 10,652 passing yards, 64 TDs, 38 INTs
- 1,057 rushing yards, 7 TDs
- 2018 Pro Bowl selection
- 2018 NFC North Champion (Bears 12-4 record)
Playing Style
Trubisky‘s biggest strengths are his deep ball accuracy, mobility outside the pocket, and throwing on the run. His superior arm allows him to rip tight spirals even when off-balance. While he went through growing pains with decision-making, at just 29 he‘s heading into his prime years.
"Trubisky is one of the best deep-ball throwers in the NFL. With time to hone his instincts, he could be an elite quarterback." – NFL Analyst, Trent Dilfer
Personal Life
Trubisky comes from an athletic family – his dad played football while his mom played basketball in college. Family continues to be huge in his life. In 2021, he married his longtime girlfriend Hillary Gallagher. Off the field, Trubisky is known for his leadership and commitment to giving back through his Trubisky Foundation.
The Outlook
All the pieces are there for Mitch Trubisky to establish himself as a top-tier NFL quarterback. As a Bears fan, I‘m grateful for the memories over the years watching #10. Now I can‘t wait to see him shine in Pittsburgh! His relentless work ethic and drive to be great will serve him well as he enters the prime of his career.
