Ashley Graham was born in 1987 and raised in the small town of Wood River, Nebraska by her loving mother and two sisters. From childhood, Ashley‘s confidence and charisma made her shine. She was outgoing, ambitious and determined to pursue modeling from an early age.
At just 12 years old, Ashley competed in a modeling contest in NYC. Though she didn‘t win, this fueled her passion even more. At 17, she signed with a local agency in Omaha. Little did she know this was merely the beginning of an iconic career!
Moving to the Big Apple
In the early 2000s, Ashley made the big move to New York City. Though initially met with rejection for being "too big", Ashley persevered. She eventually signed with the prestigious Ford Models agency.
Her first big break came in 2010 modeling for Lane Bryant. I‘ll never forget seeing her gorgeous figure in those ads! This was just a taste of Ashley‘s soon-to-be immense success.
Rising to Fame
Over the next few years, Ashley‘s fame skyrocketed. She became the first plus-size model to appear on the cover of Vogue España in 2014. I was brought to tears seeing her stunning image held up as an icon of beauty.
The following year Ashley gave a rousing TED talk and appeared in campaigns for Levi‘s, H&M, Addition Elle and more. Her influence was undeniable!
Then came 2016 – Ashley‘s career hit an iconic milestone when she was selected as the first size 16 model for the cover of Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue. I screamed with joy seeing Ashley looking so confident and gorgeous!
