Early Life & Family

Born in 1998, Bindi Sue Irwin entered the world in Beerwah, Queensland near her family‘s Australia Zoo. She was named after Steve Irwin‘s favorite female crocodile at the zoo, and her middle name Sue honors Steve‘s dog Sui who tragically died just months before Bindi was born.

As the daughter of the world famous Crocodile Hunter Steve Irwin and Terri Irwin, Bindi grew up immersed in wildlife and adventure from day one. Her parents met when Terri visited the Australia Zoo in 1991 and Steve sweeped her off her feet – it was true love sparked by their shared passion for animals.

Bindi was just 8 years old when her father Steve tragically passed away after being pierced in the chest by a stingray barb. This devastating loss fueled Bindi‘s dedication to continuing her dad‘s legacy of wildlife conservation.

She focused on following in her parents‘ footsteps and making them proud. Bindi fulfilled her father‘s wish for her to become a Wildlife Warrior – a title Steve himself bestowed upon her in 2004.

Bindi has a wonderful close bond with her younger brother Robert Irwin, who shares her commitment to conservation. In 2021, Bindi married her long-time boyfriend Chandler Powell at the Australia Zoo. The couple welcomed their first child Grace Warrior Irwin Powell on March 25, 2021.

Conservation Work

Since gaining the title of Wildlife Warrior in her youth, Bindi has been an unstoppable force in carrying out her family‘s conservation mission.

Some major initiatives Bindi has spearheaded include:

  • Launching the Wildlife Warriors Kids program to promote conservation in schools
  • Campaigning against whaling and the killing of elephants, sharks, and other threatened species
  • Promoting research on crocodilian biology and strategies to prevent human-wildlife conflict
  • Raising awareness about habitat destruction, climate change, and plastic pollution
  • Supporting wildlife hospitals, animal rescue/rehab centers, and any project that protects animals and ecosystems

Bindi‘s determination to educate others about environmental issues is truly inspirational. She reminds her fans that no matter how young you are, you can make a difference in this world.

Television Career

Bindi Irwin‘s contagious bubbly personality and wildlife smarts have made her a hugely popular TV personality since she was a child.

After first appearing on shows like The Tonight Show and the late Crocodile Hunter documentaries, Bindi launched her own Discovery Kids series Bindi the Jungle Girl in 2007. This show delighted viewers for 3 seasons by documenting Bindi‘s adventures growing up at the Australia Zoo.

Over the years, Bindi has brought her effervescent spirit to TV projects like returning to Nim‘s Island, hosting award shows, and even showing off her dance moves on Dancing with the Stars.

These days, Bindi stars alongside her mom Terri and brother Robert in Crikey! It‘s the Irwins. Premiering in 2018, this Animal Planet series chronicles the Irwin family carrying on Steve‘s mission.

Watching Bindi‘s contagious enthusiasm on screen, it‘s easy to see why audiences of all ages absolutely adore her. This Wildlife Warrior was born to be on TV!
